Abandoned Santiago Hotel
Santiago de Los Caballeros is the Dominican Republic’s second-largest city. As our taxi driver told us while en route through the city, “this is the heart of the Dominican Republic where you will find the Dominican culture.”
While we only had about an hour in town to wander the bustling center, we did manage to have enough time to squeeze in a couple of sights. Most of downtown Santiago is a teeming urban center which pulses with merchants hawking their wares. In the center of town, only one block off the park, is the town’s very first hotel which opened to foreign visitors. Despite it’s historic nature, however, the aging punk building now sits abandoned and forgotten in the middle of town.
Here, a lonely camera lens peers through a window to reveal the gutted interior.
